KTC, Krungthep Turakij Newspaper, Tourism Authority of Thailand and MasterCard jointly hold a grand announcement event for the winners of the first “Thailand Boutique Awards 2010”. The winners of 48 prizes were determined by eleven panel members and presented to successful boutique hotels by H.E. Mr. Chumpol Silapa-archa, Minister of Tourism and Sports. The Regional Excellence Awards go to Rachamankha Hotel in Chiang Mai for northern region, Sadhabura by Tohsang Hotel in Ubon Ratchathani for northeastern region, Chakrabongse Villas in Bangkok for central region, Paresa Resort in Phuket for southern region. The program organizers believe it will help improve the potentials of small and medium sized boutique hotels in Thailand.

Mr. Niwatt Chittalarn, President & Chief Executive Officer, “KTC” or Krungthai Card Public Company Limited, said “For the past 2 years, Tourism industry in Thailand has been affected by the political situation and economic recession in European countries and United States of America especially among the business of small to medium sized hotels”

“Although “KTC” is the leader of the credit card and consumer loans industry, we continuously support the tourism business as well. This is because KTC members tend to spend more money on travel and leisure services. During crisis situation, many boutique hotels are uncompetitive in pricing but they do have strong advantages in their outstanding and unique design. So, we want to improve their potential to grow their business. The “Thailand Boutique Awards 2010” is the country’s first contest of boutique hotels. This collaboration among KTC, Krungthep Turakij Newspaper of Nation Group, Tourism Authority of Thailand and MasterCard is intended to provide support to hotel operators who are a crucial element driving the Thai tourism industry forward. These small to medium sized hotels are particularly creative and unique but they do not have the financial backing to grow, sustain and promote their business like larger hotels.”

“This first year of the “Thailand Boutique Awards 2010” campaign has enjoyed the great support of public and private agencies. We also have the honor of H.E. Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, Prime Minister in signing the awards and of H.E. Mr. Chumpol Silapa-archa, Minister of Tourism and Sports in presenting the awards themselves.”

Ms. Duangkamol Chotana, Editor, Krungthep Turakij said “Thailand Boutique Awards 2010 has been successful over the past six months with the great cooperation of KTC, Tourism Authority of Thailand, MasterCard and eleven members of the panel who have offered up their precious time to review the contestants. We have the bloggers who helped prepare excellent reviews of hotels in the various provinces to thank as well. We can say that “Thailand Boutique Awards 2010” is quite successfully because we have got so many unique boutique hotels applied for this project. However, between the periods of review the contestants from judges, many provinces of Thailand suffered from a crisis of flood, including some of the boutique hotels contestants. So we decided that we will skip the “Special Excellence Award” for the best of the best boutique hotel with superiority in all aspects because it will be unfair for the boutique hotels in flooded areas.”
